Target Traits in Groundnut

Crop Variety Trait
Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) GG 20 Low Phytic Acid
TG 37 A Spodoptera Resistance
Girnar-4 and Girnar-5 Herbicide Tolerance

Research Methods & Outcomes

Genome editing work in groundnut focused on three major traits: reducing anti-nutritional factors, enhancing insect resistance, and improving herbicide tolerance. Guide RNAs were designed and cloned into CRISPR/Cas vectors, constructs were validated through PCR and sequencing, and subsequently introduced into E. coli and Agrobacterium. Functional studies and expression analyses are in progress, showing promising candidates for developing improved groundnut varieties with desirable traits.
